UFC 321 – Tom Aspinall vs. Cyril Jean: Fight Card, Date, Odds, Location, Rumors, Complete Guide
Tom Aspinall is the undisputed heavyweight champion. Aspinall finally put Jon Jones in the rearview mirror after that Jones vacated the belt Instead of unifying him with Aspinall, the former interim champion. Aspinall made his first undisputed title defense against Cyril Jean at UFC 321.
Aspinall spent More time More like a temporary hero than he should be. He even defended the interim title against Curtis Blaydes, one of the few interim champions to ever defend their titles. However, all this is in the past, and Aspinall steps forward as the rightful ruler of the department. Aspinall’s combination of speed, power and technique is revolutionary. He has finished every opponent he has faced in the UFC. His only loss in the UFC was a TKO leg injury to Blaydes, which he avenged. Former interim champion Jin has a lot to prove. Arguably the best pure forward in the division and his questionable defense and lapses in judgment contribute to his underdog status.
UFC 321 also features a second title fight. Verna Jandiroba and Mackenzie Dern bring it back for the vacant women’s strawweight title. The fight was then booked Zhang Weili gave up the title to challenge women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 322. Dern beat Jandiroba in 2020, but Jandiroba has become the more consistent fighter since then. Jandiroba is 6-1 since their last fight. Meanwhile, Dern is 5-4.
There’s an important bout on the undercard this weekend as well in the bantamweight division when Omar Nurmagomedov returns to face Mario Bautista. Nurmagomedov fell short in his title bid against Merab Dvalishvili in January – a fight he still believes he won – but must now retain his place in the pecking order in hopes of securing a second shot at the 135-pound title. Meanwhile, Bautista went on a three-fight winning streak, moving up the rankings with victories over Ricky Simon, Jose Aldo, and Patchy Mix.
