“These are days of destiny,” Vice President J.D. Vance declared Wednesday as he met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to build on a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

“We have a very difficult task ahead of us, which is to disarm Hamas but rebuild Gaza to make life better for the people in Gaza, but also to ensure that Hamas no longer poses a threat to our friends in Israel,” Vance said in Jerusalem, speaking alongside Netanyahu.

Vance continued: “This is not easy. I think the prime minister knows that as well as anyone. But we are committed to this matter in the Trump administration.” “And I think that, even in the last 24 hours, we’ve had a lot of good conversations with our friends in the Israeli government, but also frankly with our friends in the Arab world who are stepping up and volunteering to play a very positive role in this.”

“As the Prime Minister said, these are fateful days, and we are very excited to sit down and work together on the Gaza peace plan,” Vance added.

Netanyahu told reporters that Israel has an unparalleled alliance and partnership with the United States, which generates opportunities for security and expanding peace in the Middle East.

Vance also met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Wednesday, telling reporters afterward: “We are here to talk about how we can ensure that the peace agreement that began about a week ago stands, and that we move to phase two, to phase three successfully.”

The peace agreement included the release of hostages held by Hamas.

Vance added: “As the president said, there will be hardship along the way. It will be difficult, but I feel very optimistic based on my conversation with our Israeli friends and also with our Arab friends in the Gulf, that it is possible that we can actually make peace stick, that we can create the kind of environment where our Arab friends in the Gulf and our Israeli friends can build a better Middle East for everyone.” “And that is the administration’s goal. We believe this is in the interest of the United States. We also believe it is in the interest of everyone who lives here.”

“I truly believe that the fact that you are here is another building block in building a future of peace,” Herzog said.

Herzog continued: “We are all grateful to President Donald Trump for his steadfast determination to move forward. We must move forward.” “We must offer hope to the region, to Israel, to the Palestinians, to our neighbors, and to the future of our children.”
