Voting is scheduled to take place today at 5 p.m

Well, Academy members, time is up. The extensions are almost over, and this is your final warning to cast your Oscar nomination vote before the final deadline at 5 PM PT today, January 17.

Due to the Los Angeles wildfire tragedy, the voting period was extended twice. The original deadline was Sunday, January 12, then it was moved to Tuesday, January 14, and finally moved to today. In informal conversations, I found voters who took advantage of these extensions and were still waiting to vote before 5pm today, or, with all the confusion and anxiety about the fires, simply had other things on their minds. With other voting groups, including BAFTA, PGA, WGA and ASC, finally announcing their nominations this week, it has become clear that there will be no further delay to the Oscars.

The Academy also released the schedule for announcing nominations, which will begin at 5:30 a.m. PT/8:30 a.m. ET on Thursday and will be split into two parts as usual. Originally planned with a live audience at the academy’s headquarters, it will now be carried out virtually.
