Why do children say 6 7 and why is it banned? Mimi explained
Why do children say 6 7? Well, what a question.
If you’ve been anywhere near the internet or a member of Generation Alpha in the past few weeks, you’ll be familiar with this phrase. But what does it mean and why is it a thing?
If, like us, you’re protecting your peace but now find yourself needing these answers as a matter of urgency so you can seem like you fit in among the younger members of your family, look no further. Stay tuned as we try to explain the meaning of this meme.
Ah, 2025.
Why do children say 6 7 and what does it mean?
The phrase six seven (6 7) is now an internet sensation and a buzz term having gained insane levels of popularity among Generation Alpha.
But where did it come from in the first place?
Well, this term originated from rapper Skrilla’s song “Doot Doot (6 7)” where he repeatedly says “6 7” in his lyrics.
Sections of the song containing this vocal track quickly gained traction on TikTok after users began sharing edits of basketball player LaMelo Ball who stands at (can you believe it) 6’7″ tall.
However, the song’s original context is a reference to 67th Street in Philadelphia and a reference to police laws. Since then, it’s fair to say that the meme 6 7 has taken on a life of its own, and is now being scattered across the internet and even been referenced in an episode of South Park.
In general, there is no “real” meaning to 6 7, and instead it is used as a term nothing like Gen Alpha’s other favorite term, “skibidi”.
And in case you’re wondering, yes, it certainly looks like we’ve actually reached peak brain rot.
Now it’s largely an inside joke, although it doesn’t technically mean anything, it can be used in any context you wish. So we say go and 6 7.
How did the virus spread?
What really put 6 7 on the map, so to speak, was this video of a “6 7 kid” who was seen shouting the term at a basketball game. Please see below.
Since then, this kid has gone on to create his entire 6 7 brand and honestly, we can’t blame him.
Why was meme 6-7 banned?
Yes, we have already reached the point where the phrase “6 7” should be banned in some classrooms because it has proven to be too annoying.
